Volts are a means to an end, they are what you adjust in order to obtain the desired CURRENT and to a lesser extent ensure the desired pulse width can be achieved. The volts required will vary significantly depending on the umbilical length and resistance. The desired peak current for Sodera guns in their manual is between 6 and 10A. The lower limit is for reliable firing and the upper to avoid solenoid damage. The minimum pulse width quoted in the Sodera manual is 30mS however most operators believe it needs to be twice this - 70mS. The result of too short a pulse is that not enough air is released into the firing chamber and during the reset cycle water gets drawn into the solenoid leading to damage to the poppet valve.
