The archbishop, based in Spencerville, has been on a leave of absence since the beginning of the month when it was revealed he was the focus of a police investigation into accusations of sexual abuse going back 30 years. The church's Holy Synod of Bishops announced the formation of a Synodal Commission that will conduct the internal investigation. October 30, 2010 A former employee with the Diocese of Reno has filed a federal lawsuit claiming he was fired for objecting to and reporting allegedly illegal and fraudulent acts by diocese officials relating to a federal grant to refurbish a historic Catholic church in Virginia City.

Among Carmen 'Nick' Nicosia's concerns was a $500 donation to the church project by Joe Conforte, former owner of the Mustang Ranch brothel and now in exile in Brazil after fleeing tax-evasion charges, the suit said. Nicosia said the money was laundered through Conforte's lawyer, Virgil Bucchianeri.

Edelson did not elaborate either inside or outside of court as to why Lahey, who was not in court, may not need the nine days set aside for his trial in April. In recent weeks the bank has made written and in-person pledges to pass anti-money laundering legislation, report and investigate suspicious transactions, identify customers to law enforcement and create a special compliance authority. Prosecutors, though, aren't buying any of it.

They claim that even as the bank was making such overtures, it broke the law by trying to transfer money without identifying the sender or recipient, or what the money was being used for. Ernest Lorch was scheduled to enter a plea on charges of indecent assault and battery and attempted rape in Hampshire Superior Court in Northampton on Tuesday. When he failed to appear in court on Tuesday, Judge Bertha Josephson issued an arrest warrant.

Attorney Frederick Cohn said he will fight extradition because the two-page indictment is vague - it says the assault took place between March 1977 and April 1978. CANADA Montreal Gazette Two groups are asking organizers of today's Brother Andre celebration to collect money for people who suffered sexual abuse at the hands of pedophile Catholic priests and lay brothers. They say some of the entry fee (tickets cost $5) for today's event at the Olympic Stadium should go to indemnify victims and pay for psychological support. They are also calling for a collection during the event, with money going to victims. The Association of Victims of Priests and a committee of victims of lay brothers at College Notre Dame sent letters asking Jean-Claude Turcotte, archbishop of Montreal, and Pierre Morissette, bishop of St.

Jerome and president of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, to support the idea. MALTA The Malta Independent by Scott Grech The victims who claim they were sexually abused by priests as they were growing up at St Joseph’s Home in Sta Venera have been notified by the local Church that their allegations were founded, the victims said in a statement yesterday. Some of the 11 men involved will address a press conference today to further elaborate on the news, after they were told that their case will now be sent to the Vatican for adjudication. Back in April one of the victims, Lawrence Grech, who often acted as the spokesperson on behalf of the other 10 men, the majority of whom have never shown their face in public, demanded an apology from the Church at a press conference prior to the Pope’s 26-hour visit to Malta that month.
